From the sun-soaked shores of Turks & Caicos to the vibrant pulse of Mexico City, songwriter, producer, and performer Jeff Hodges is charting new creative territory. His latest single, “Loco Motive” (released October 24, 2025), is a rhythm-fueled blend of Latin, Country, Caribbean, Rock, Hip Hop, and Blues — an energetic fusion that captures both the motion and emotion of life itself.
Built on coastal percussion and Americana-tinged guitars, the track rolls forward like a train gaining speed — steady, powerful, unstoppable. At its core lies a message about resilience and rediscovery. “Life can derail you,” says Hodges, “but music puts you back on track.” The song is not just about rhythm; it’s about regaining control when everything feels out of sync.
A veteran of the industry and founder of Charleston Sound Studios (SC), Hodges has spent years shaping the sound of others before stepping fully into his own. Now based in the Caribbean, his current chapter is all about honesty, evolution, and joy — and “Loco Motive” is the anthem driving that momentum forward.
We sat down with Jeff Hodges to talk about his inspiration, creative rebirth, and the personal meaning behind his new single.
Interview with Jeff Hodges
Jeff: It was a time that my life was going thru a major change and felt out of control – like a runaway train… that I wasn’t driving. And it was crazy. So the Loco Motive title is dual meaning…
Jeff: For me, it means that in a situation you can’t control, you don’t panic. You stay true, you stay honest, try to stay calm and just hang on. Because those situations burn themselves out.. They rattle and unravel… the truth may scatter but it doesn’t matter it’s sadder cause they’re only gonna shatter (lol)
Jeff: I don’t aim for writing in a genre really.. I just let out whats inside. It’s always going to me me 🙂
Jeff: Performing in the band here, we do many classic songs, and I fell in love with singing them. My voice changed – or – I would say, that I found my voice. Combine that new found love of oldies with my classical and jazz training, my progressive rock roots, merged with my Nashville journey and now my caribbean home… it just happened!
Jeff: Absolutely. I fell in love with bands like Stick Figure, went to Jamaica to visit Bob Marley’s home – and my daughter Alyxandra loves reggae as well.. It’s just the right vibe here!
Jeff: I think I’ve been trying to find what I like to compose for a long time, and it’s ended up really just being a mash up.. Honestly I compose what ever comes out when I am feeling inspired, and now in my life, it’s just so much more natural to just let it happen without forcing it out. I really feel like it just flows through me as a result of all the harmonics and vibrations in the universe – my friends family coworkers and really any music I have heard in the past, it’s just a mash up thru me and sent back out to the universe!
Jeff: They definitely were.. And to some extent I’m still in that moment. The out of control train is symbolic… Loco Motive is two different words because Loco = crazy in Spanish, and Motive is symbolic of intentions. So together, it’s “Crazy Intentions”. The the train itself – and it’s conductor – are the things you can’t control. There’s definitely a person I was thinking of when I wrote that. And what is more wild is that Alyxandra’s lyric “Ain’t got no ticket for the ride, Conductor’s got me trapped inside” is personal to her, too.
All of the lyrics are a play on words… losing as we race against the time… (the longer we stay on this thing the worse it’s gonna be)… and “falling in a steep decline” (yeah you are going downhil and also… things are declining fast)… the train doesn’t give a dam… but in the end the train gets smashed…and I dont’ give a damn if it does!
Jeff: Playing with Bob and the band has absolutely been hugely significant on my vocals especially. For much of my music career I wasn’t that fond of my voice.. But I found it singing the oldies. I’m a belter – I’ve got a big voice and I am able to shape my sound very much to my liking now. I was trained for years in voice and that helped, but I wasn’t aware that I was allowed to make it “sound” good if you know what I mean?
Jeff: It’s definitely more in the direction I feel that some of my recent successes, which really those songs were just for fun and started as just a goofy thing… they turned out to be huge which had opened the door for me to present who I am – many layers and many sounds are on the way I promise.
Jeff: I’ve got an entire album of new songs! I’m going to be releasing many as singles then there will be a compilation of I’d say 14 or 15 songs on my album “Hollow Man” – coming in 2026!!
There are rockers, ballads, latin, country, touchy-feelin- and rawkus numbers all over it!! I can’t wait to share.
