Exclusive Interview with Nathasha Rumbos
Natasha: Zaint and I met at a competition in Miami called Toma mi Voz about 2 years ago, and we just hit it off while we were backstage. Once I started listening to his projects, I knew that he was the artist I wanted to collaborate with in the near future. I always wanted to dive into the afro genre, and the best person I could do it with was him. When I approached Zaint about the song, he didn’t even think about it—he hopped right on board and said, absolutely, Tash!
Natasha: Believe it or not, the biggest challenge was setting up a Zoom meeting every week that worked for both of us. My schedule was all over the place, and he had gotten into taking dance classes, so it was a little bit crazy to coordinate. That was one of the reasons why things got delayed. There were probably like 10 different versions of the song before we finally got to the one that’s out now, and we just knew—this is it! The song definitely went through phases as we developed it, with lots of edits, but looking back, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Natasha: I’ve been working with Breezy for about four years, and the one thing I love about him is that he knows exactly what I’m looking for. I showed him a couple of Zaint’s projects, and he automatically knew the type of vibe that would intertwine both our musical styles.
Natasha: This song represents a lot about what I’ve gone through when it comes to opinions since starting my music career. I had a lot of self-doubt because I started listening to the wrong people. Vete is my way of telling all those people to F* off**, and it’s my realization that I am capable of doing everything I set out to do.
Natasha: Absolutely! This was more in the beginning of my career when I felt that people didn’t really believe I could pull it off. Once I stopped caring about what other people thought about my career choices, things started to flourish for me.
Natasha: I’m huge on keeping up with my social media. If you look at it, it’s like a blog of my life over the past four years, with everything I’ve been diving into. It’s definitely been a journey—you see the music side mixed with the influencer side I’m building as well. Social media has been a huge factor in connecting with other artists, especially for collaborations. A good amount of people have found me through Instagram, which has led to dope songs like “Dale Dale,” “A La Primera,” “Nos Vemos Otra Vez,” and “Dime Una Cosa Remix.”
Natasha: I actually have two projects in the works—one is a solo bachata song, and the other is a salsa collaboration. The motto is to always keep producing as much as I can.
Natasha: My sound feels more defined and centered. I feel more confident in dancing and singing without losing pitch. My artistic vision has expanded, and I feel like I’m not afraid to explore different concepts when it comes to visuals. It definitely feels more liberating.
Natasha: I’m surrounded by so many different styles of music here, and I love it. That’s where I take inspiration from, which is why I’ve decided to stick to my Latin roots while infusing them with different genres.
10. If listeners could take away just one message from “Vete,” what would you want it to be?
Natasha: To be your authentic self and let it shine. People who don’t see that don’t have the privilege to be in your presence.
