Exclusive Interview: Piper Connolly Uploads Herself into the Future with GLITCHGIRL.EXE

At just thirteen years old, Phoenix-born alt-pop trailblazer Piper Connolly is already shaking up the scene with a fearless approach to genre-blending and self-expression. Known for her energetic live shows, empowering lyrics, and a sound described as “caffeine-laced Pop Rocks,” Connolly has quickly gained praise from outlets like Girls’ Life, EARMILK, GRRRL Music, and CLOUT.

With the release of her new remix EP, GLITCHGIRL.EXE—out now on all platforms—Piper introduces a new alter ego and a full-blown EDM-infused evolution of her sound. The four-track project takes fan-favorite singles and reimagines them as high-energy dance anthems for summer, each laced with a cyber-pop edge and the kind of chaotic charm that only Connolly could pull off. From the nostalgic pulse of “chameleon” to the sassy runway vibe of “kiss like me,” the EP opens a new chapter for the rising star while keeping her signature spirit fully intact.

1. Piper, GLITCHGIRL.EXE is such a bold step forward in your sound. What inspired the idea of creating an alter ego, and how did GLITCHGIRL herself come to life?

Piper: You are correct. This is a boldly different direction, and that in itself was really what led to the idea of an alter ego; something new just for this. My music is typically anchored in rock, as that has been my passion. However, I love the fun energy of getting people dancing, and so why not have a project dedicated to that.

2. You’ve taken four of your previous singles and completely reimagined them with an EDM twist. What drew you to remixing your own songs instead of releasing brand-new tracks?

Piper: I’ve never attempted to write a dance track, I’m just not wired that way yet. I feel it takes a unique approach that comes from years of experience with club hits, so I felt a collaboration was the best way to achieve this.

3. Each song on the EP taps into a different feeling—nostalgia, empowerment, chaos. How did you decide what kind of energy each remix should carry?

Piper: We really just went with what felt right for each track. They already possessed their own emotions, so why fight that?

4. You describe GLITCHGIRL.EXE as “you uploaded into a broken arcade machine.” What part of your real self is reflected in that chaotic, cyber-pop persona?

Piper: Well, it’s really multiple personas; each of them reflect a different part of me. Kiss Like Me Alter is kind of my sassy side, whereas Welcome Back Girl speaks to my strength.

5. At only thirteen, your music has already been called “caffeine-laced Pop Rocks.” Where does your sound come from, and how has it evolved since your earlier releases?

Piper: My sound is always evolving, I think because I’m thirteen. Every few weeks I find a new artist that I connect with and inspires me in my writing. My tastes are constantly expanding, and that is definitely reflected in my music. I expect anyone listening to see constant evolution; I won’t stand still.

6. You’ve mentioned that summer was the perfect time to release this EP. What do you hope fans will feel when they blast GLITCHGIRL.EXE at full volume?

Piper: I want them to have FUN. If that means dancing, partying, jumping in the pool, I want this to be a soundtrack for a good time. And who isn’t looking to have fun in the summer? Except maybe Lana Del Rey.

7. Your songwriting always seems to speak directly to your generation. How do you stay connected to your teen audience while staying true to your own voice?

Piper: Being connected to my teen audience is easy, because I’m growing up alongside them. Most of my friends are around my age, and I only really need to pay attention. A lot of the things I write about are inspired by what I see going on around me.

8. You worked closely with Marvin Fockens on writing, producing, and mastering this project. What was that collaboration like, and how did you two shape the EP’s sonic world?

Piper: Actually, I need to correct you there. Marvin worked with us on the initial track, whereas these new tracks were done in collaboration with Hi5 (chameleon, welcome back girl), Calibeats (kiss like me), and Xander Milne (twisted play).

9. From punk-rock energy to dancefloor euphoria, you’re not afraid to play with genres. Are there any unexpected directions you’re hoping to explore next?

Piper: Although I don’t have any timeline in mind currently for this, I am really inspired by jazz. I am in love with contemporary jazz artists such as Raye, Celeste, and Laufey, as well as classic jazz artists like Billie Holiday. So, who knows when you’ll see those influences pop up in future releases.

10. With the release of GLITCHGIRL.EXE and growing attention from outlets like GRRRL Music and EARMILK, what’s next for Piper Connolly? More remixes, maybe a full-length album?

Piper: I have another 6 or 7 tracks that are in various stages of completion that I expect to be done with over the next few months. I would love to have my work released on vinyl, so perhaps an LP is on the horizon.

GLITCHGIRL.EXE is a technicolor detour that still feels 100% Piper Connolly—playful, powerful, and unapologetically experimental. Whether it’s a full-blown dance party or a late-night headphone moment, the EP invites fans to experience Piper’s music in an entirely new way.
