GiNN 諸葛靖, the innovative artist known for his electrifying blend of EDM and Hip Hop, has released his latest single “暈 (yūn).” The track captures the essence of his evolving sound, incorporating deep house, rap, and his distinct cultural influences. We spoke with GiNN to delve into the story behind the music, the inspiration for the track, and the creative process that brought “暈 (yūn)” to life.
We caught up with GiNN to talk about his musical journey, the inspiration behind his latest single 暈 (yūn), and his vision for the future of his artistry.

1. What inspired you to create your signature Electro Hop sound, and how has it evolved over time?
GiNN 諸葛靖: My sound was born out of chaos—combining my love for Hip Hop’s raw storytelling with EDM’s energetic pulse. MF’s a VOID, you know? What’s funny is I played classical piano for ten years but found EDM and Hip Hop oddly soothing. I used to take naps with ‘Boom Boom Pow’ by Black Eyed Peas blasting on my MP3—it’s an Electro Hop classic. My experimentation started with blending ATL trap beats and techno layers on my first track as a front-stage artist, ‘Just a Bit.’ I added Mandarin lyrics to give it a cultural twist, though my Mandarin wasn’t fluent at the time, so bear with me! Over time, my sound has become more intentional. Every element—whether it’s a bassline or vocal inflection—represents a unique emotional expression and a piece of my dual identity.
GiNN 諸葛靖: My name is a bridge between my past and present. ‘GiNN’ is playful, modern, and globally recognizable—it reflects my vibe and even sounds like ‘靖.’ Meanwhile, ‘諸葛靖’ ties me directly to my heritage; it’s my birth name. ‘諸葛’ is from the legendary strategist Zhuge Liang, symbolizing intellect and strategy, and ‘靖’ means peace, dedication, and respect. My family decided to change my name for some reason later on. Anyways, together, my name embodies my approach to music—strategic, culturally rooted, and always seeking harmony through sound.
GiNN 諸葛靖: 暈 (Dizzy) is about that intoxicating feeling of attraction—losing yourself in the moment. It’s playful, confident, and sensual, but at its heart, it’s about respect. It’s like the yin-yang balance—bold yet mindful. I urge people to have fun but to never, ever lose respect for their partner, or potential partner. 👀
4. How does 暈 differ from your previous releases, both in sound and theme?
GiNN 諸葛靖: ‘暈‘ leans heavily into Deep House and Rap, while my earlier tracks had more of an Electronic sounds injected ATL Hip Hop vibe. Thematically, it’s unapologetically about desire, whereas my previous work explored broader themes like wasted time (‘Tick Tock’) or cultural introspection and some of the stuff I will never release. ‘暈’ feels like a natural evolution, setting the tone for where I want to take my production and artistry moving forward.
GiNN 諸葛靖: It started with the bassline—I wanted it to feel expansive, sensual, and proactive, like it was coursing through your veins. Then came the rhythm—hypnotic but danceable. I ‘dongdongdonged’ the groove, ‘cicicied’ the hi-hats, and ‘ankled’ the 808s in front of my arranger LNCL and he gave me a weird face but he got the idea. Writing the lyrics was fun but tricky; I had to balance confidence and desire with respect. The most exciting part was layering the beat to match the lyrics’ vibe, and the most challenging was ensuring the Mandarin and English lines flowed seamlessly. Growing up sucking at both languages, it’s wild to see how binding them has become one of my biggest strengths.
GiNN 諸葛靖: It’s about finding natural intersections between sounds and content. I don’t want it to feel forced. For instance, I might use a guzheng sample if it fits, but I wouldn’t slap an erhu lead on a dark trap beat just for the sake of it. The goal is to create something fresh that feels authentic to both worlds.
GiNN 諸葛靖: There are a few. Struggling with Mandarin as a kid taught me to embrace my dual identity rather than run from it. Starting as a ghost producer during my time at the University of Washington was pivotal—I was producing in secret while friends thought I only rapped. They discovered my skills during a school singing contest called The Voice of UW. The Asian American community’s support, especially the Vietnamese elders, kickstarted my music production career. Later, during COVID, my 抖音 audience grew to 100K, but being a ‘foreigner’ in China and the pandemic’s challenges forced me to pivot. That’s when I started J.H Creatives to shoot commercials and do digital marketing in general, and, eventually, I.I Limited, giving me a platform to create and promote authentic cultural projects globally.
GiNN 諸葛靖: It’s central to everything I do. Being Asian American means constantly navigating two worlds, and that tension fuels my creativity. I have better access to artists and influences from both sides, creating a completely unique lane for my artistry. My music shows you can embrace your roots while pushing boundaries—and make it sound hot.
9. What do you hope listeners take away from 暈 and your music as a whole?
GiNN 諸葛靖: I want ‘暈‘ to leave listeners feeling confident, playful, and open to romantic touch. On a broader scale, I want my music to inspire curiosity about blending cultures. English and Mandarin can switch seamlessly—you just need to find the right flow and syllables.
GiNN 諸葛靖: I’m looking to connect with more ambitious creatives on a global scale, especially in Europe, where I’m planning some performances. I’m also keen to explore collaborations within the fashion and film industries—it feels like the perfect extension of my artistry. My next project, Post-Euphoria, takes a heavier dive into Electro Hop. You could say ‘暈‘ is just the beginning—a starting point for me to truly find my voice, my sound, and my vibe. It’s going to be an exciting evolution.
