floodlit Levels Up Ama, a Furious Single of Myanmar Grief and Melodic Power

There are bands that simply make noise, and then there are forces that channel global tragedy into profound artistic statements. The brand new, furious-five-piece known as floodlit has firmly established itself in the latter category. With the release of their highly anticipated debut single, AMa | အစ်မ, on November 21, 2025, the band launches an official assault on the heavy music scene. This track is a devastating anthem of poetry and power chords, an intoxicating blend of melodic hardcore and stadium rock that demands immediate attention.

Even before the song’s official release, with only a handful of entrancing video teasers, floodlit demonstrated their immediate magnetic pull. The band successfully DIY-summoned over 2.5k social media followers and subscribers from all over the world, reaching over 150k impressions. This organic, rapid growth speaks volumes about the palpable energy and unique vision that the Los Angeles-based cinematic heavy rock outfit brings to the metalcore and post-hardcore genres, signaling a truly significant debut.

The genesis of this track and the band’s entire forthcoming album is rooted in a deeply personal and heartbreaking global event. Lead composer and frontman Elijah Kellogg spent nearly four years working and helping to build a farming community in the jungles of northern Myanmar. He still considers the beautiful land his home. However, in 2021, in the wake of the military coup and the resulting civil war, his family was emergency evacuated from the country, and they have not been able to return to his beloved Myanmar since.

Upon returning to the US, Kellogg got back into music with new friends, and they began creating an album specifically to mourn for his Myanmar family. The song’s title, AMa, means elder sister in the Burmese language, a term of endearment often used for any woman of one’s generation who may be older, including one’s own wife. The story within this powerful track focuses on a nameless, yet tragically well known, man from Myanmar who mourns the tragic murder of his wife and son at the hands of the military.

Though the narrative is intensely sad and detailed, the band emphasizes that it is intended as an important and universal reminder for all people. It serves as a call to mourn the senseless loss of warring states and a demand to cry for justice even when no one is listening. Kellogg notes that he and his bandmates are truly honored to see AMa and its companion album soon travel to anyone who will listen, hoping to breathe new life into the listener’s own yearning and fight for light and justice in a dark age.

floodlit is engineered for maximum sonic impact, fusing powerful sonic assault with poignant poetry. The five-piece includes Elijah Kellogg on lead vocals and composition, Wil Jackson on guitar and clean vocals, Jin Wen “Candy” Zhang on bass and clean vocals, Ei Fan “Yvonne” Lee on lead guitar, and Kevin Pope on drums. The track features distinct and mature song composition, crushing screams, and soaring vocals from three singers, creating immense textural depth in their sound.

The production team behind AMa and the rest of the album, set to debut in spring 2026, is comprised of heavyweights who ensured the track’s massive sound. It was produced by Billboard chart topper Stephen Rezza, assistant engineered by platinum streaming and Grammy nominated Luke Dimond, and expertly mixed and mastered by multi-award winning and multi-Billboard #1 engineer Seth Munson. This meticulous production guarantees the final product captures the fury and the finesse of their melodic hardcore sound.

floodlit’s sound is built for fans of iconic bands like Deftones, Bring Me the Horizon, My Chemical Romance, Rage Against the Machine, and Sleep Token. By blending the fury of Knocked Loose and Counterparts with the melodicism of Spiritbox and Muse, they have carved out a unique space for themselves. AMa | အစ်မ is a triumphant, devastating single that proves floodlit is ready to channel their personal anguish into an essential, globally resonant message.
